The device is something like a ring for a pen or pencil, fitting snugly on a writing utensil by way of its sponge interior. The Ivy Guide translator is easy enough to use: Attach it to a writing utensil, press and hold the button, underline the word you want translated, then the translated result is projected over the word. Releasing the button clears the translation.

Though the Ivy Guide is wireless, it doesn’t require any kind of battery switching, as it connects to USB for easy charging. The entire unit comes in two pieces — the translator that fits around the pen, and the charging station that plugs into any USB port — so the translator doesn’t weigh down the writing utensil too much.
